What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Today we looked at the pedagogy behind Manaiakalani via Google Meet with Dorothy, specifically focussing on the Learn/Ako area. This made me reflect and question what high leverage practises I use with my students, and what I need to focus on and include more of. A task I will take back to use with my collaborative team is to look closely at and reflect upon What does LEARN look like at our kura and in our unique reorua environment? What are our team's personal beliefs about our children learning? And what PLD have we participated in that ties in and supports this pedagogy? What's missing?
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Today I really enjoyed the Taming my Tabs dive as this is an area I often struggle with, having far too many tabs open. I have now learnt to manage this better using the chrome extension one tab. This will make life easier. I also got a lot out of the Gmail and Calendar dives. I have requested access to my teams calendar so I know when they are available, or where they might be on particular days. I have also compacted my calendar whereby it shows only Monday to Friday. I still need to organise group emails for our kapahaka group, PLG, Tuakana and whānau rōpū.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Today I really enjoyed learning about Google Keep and the things it can do. Great for students to take notes, images, drawings on the go. I particularly loved how these can be collaborative and pinned for most relevant. I love the feature that allows the notes to be copied to a Google Doc, and that it has the ability to record keynotes, lectures and presentations. I will test this out today. Show students how to use Document Outline when using headings to quickly access parts of the text that are relevant. I need to revisit the explore functions Introduce students to remove background and put in another. I will be able to show my tamariki how to embed a video which is a skill I have learnt today.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
I have created my own personal email address. Revisiting Google Meets was beneficial also, knowing where to access the recordings from my Meet and embeding the link to my blog. This will be useful to show the students in my class how learning online can be rewindable by recording your Meet. I just need to remember to check the share settings, and change the post view to HTML with the top left pencil button.
Kia ora Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your reflection, particularly the questions you have around your own teaching practise and how to apply to your hub too. I'd be interested to hear what you and your colleagues come up with in answer to your questions.
Ngā mihi,
Sharon
Kia ora Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteWow, it looks like there were a lot of things that really resonated with you from last week's session! Working out how to manage those tabs can really make the world of difference to you in your super busy role! How have you got on with One tab since last week?
Vicki
I have had some issues I will show the team of facilitators when we meet face to face next week.
